Air Force Heritage Park in Winnipeg   1 comment

.

There is a great little unknown park near Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg that has some historical military aircraft on display.  There is no admission and walking around the park you can get right up close to the aircraft.  The park is located just north of Ness Ave on Air Force Way.

Right beside the park is the Billy Bishop Building which houses the headquarters of 1 Canadian Air Division (1 CAD) as well as the headquarters of Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Region.

Propane Propane.   Leave a comment

.

Midway through a barbeque the other day and my propane ran out.  Talk about throwing a wrench into the machinery.  Not to mention putting the brakes on that cooking pork chop.

First thing that came to mind was Trailer Park Boys.  The episode where Mr. Leahy sings the propane song. Language warning.

Tracking Hurricanes across the World over the past 170 years   Leave a comment

This map shows the paths of every hurricane and cyclone detected since 1842. Nearly 12,000 tropical cyclones have been tracked and recorded, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration keeps them all in a single database. Long-term datasets can be really interesting and scientifically valuable, and this one is undoubtedly both.

In the image above, you can clearly see that more storm tracks have overlapped in the western Pacific ocean and northern Indian ocean. This is largely because of the length of the typhoon season, which basically never stops in the warmer waters there.

The tracks of the earliest storms are based on mariner’s logs and storm records, collected from various countries, agencies and other sources. Reconciling data from these different entities was tough. Most international agencies had their own set of codes for cyclone intensity, and only recorded this information once per day. India was even using different wind thresholds to designate cyclone stages.

The map above of hurricane frequency shows that the entire Western Hemisphere seems to have an easier time than the Eastern Hemisphere. But the story looks different in the image below, which shows storm intensity based on each storm’s maximum sustained windspeed. In this image, things don’t look so great for the Western half of the globe, with a much bigger swath of stronger storms in the Northwestern Atlantic ocean. The Eastern hemisphere shows the highest concentration of intensity near the Philippines.

An example of how addictive cocaine can be   Leave a comment

.

From the war movie ‘Tropic Thunder’ where Jack Black’s character Jeff Portnoy is having cocaine withdrawal in the middle of the jungle.  His comrades have tied him to a tree so he doesn’t run off.  He is trying to bribe one buddy named Alpa Chino into cutting him loose.  There has been insinuations that Alpa is Gay.

.

.

Jeff Portnoy: Hey, Alpa, if you come over here and untie me, I will literally suck your dick, right now.

Alpa Chino: Man, what did I tell you? I love tha pussy!

Jeff Portnoy: I’ll cradle the balls, stroke the shaft, work the pipe, and swallow the gravy.

At first glance, you’d assume that these images couldn’t possibly be real. Surprisingly, they are actual mountains in China’s Danxia Landform Geological Park. The incredible colours are the result of layers of sandstone and various minerals, which gives the mountain range its vivid patterns.
