Surely there are better and more appropriate areas where this money could be directed?

United States budget is out of this world!

Pete Seeger, a Man with a passion for Virtue and Justice   Leave a comment

~

Peter “Pete” Seeger (May 3, 1919 – January 27, 2014) was an American folk singer. A fixture on nationwide radio in the 1940s, he also had a string of hit records during the early 1950s as a member of the Weavers, most notably their recording of Lead Belly’s “Goodnight, Irene”, which topped the charts for 13 weeks in 1950. Members of the Weavers were blacklisted during the McCarthy Era. In the 1960s, he re-emerged on the public scene as a prominent singer of protest music in support of international disarmament, civil rights, counterculture and environmental causes.

If I had a hammer,
I’d hammer in the morning
I’d hammer in the evening,
All over this land

I’d hammer out danger,
I’d hammer out a warning,
I’d hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

If I had a bell,
I’d ring it in the morning,
I’d ring it in the evening,
All over this land

I’d ring out danger,
I’d ring out a warning
I’d ring out love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

If I had a song,
I’d sing it in the morning,
I’d sing it in the evening,
All over this land

I’d sing out danger,
I’d sing out a warning
I’d sing out love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

Well I got a hammer,
And I got a bell,
And I got a song to sing, all over this land.

It’s the hammer of Justice,
It’s the bell of Freedom,
It’s the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

It’s the hammer of Justice,
It’s the bell of Freedom,
It’s the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

Demonically Possessed Crows Attack Pious Peace Doves over the Vatican   1 comment

~

The Vatican has announced it has summoned the Catholic Church’s top exorcist, who claims to have sent 160,000 demons back to hell, to face off with the demon crows. Father Gabriele Amorth, 88, who also heads the International Association of Exorcists (IAE), will attempt to expunge the evil forces that are controlling the wicked crows.

The idea is to entice the crows to eat some tranquilizer spiked bird feed that will be spread about St. Peter’s Square and other areas of Vatican City.  Once the birds eat the spiked birdfeed and are knocked out they will be tied to a bed. Then Father Amorth will start repeating “may the power of Christ compel you” Ad nauseam until the demonic forces release the crows and go back to their hellish cauldrons. Then the crows will be let free and hopefully go on their merry way.

This is fictional embellishment of course, the real story below:

National Geographic

Why Birds Attacked the Peace Doves in Rome

A crow and a gull targeted the freakish doves, bred to be unnaturally white.

.

doves.

The irony was too much: When Pope Francis and two children released two white “peace doves” at the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City on Sunday, the doves were immediately attacked by other birds, losing feathers and being driven away as a huge crowd watched.

Thus, tens of thousands of Tweets and Facebook posts were launched, some of which used words such as “demonic,” “omen,” and “apocalypse”—and inevitably, of course, referring to “angry birds.” What really happened there?

.

doves1.

Why did the crow and the gull attack the doves? Because the doves were white. Thousands of pigeons (relatives of doves) live in Rome, as in most cities. They range in color from grayish to brownish to blackish and everything in between. Many other species of birds live in Rome as well, but none are pure white. So if you’re an aggressive, badass bird (as gulls and crows tend to be), what’s going to draw your attention? The pure-white bird. What’s going to be the target of your aggression? The pure-white bird. There’s a reason that albino birds (and other animals born without any color pigment) generally don’t live long in the wild: They’re easily seen, they can’t hide, and predators single them out for attack.

What are “peace doves”? Doves have been a symbol of peace for thousands of years, in part because of the biblical story of the ark, in which a dove brought an olive branch to Noah, showing that dry land was near and the terrible flood would soon be over. Christianity, especially, adopted the dove as a religious icon.

Are doves really peaceful? Not particularly. They have weak feet and small bills and mostly mind their own business, walking around eating seeds and the occasional tiny bug. But they’re just as likely to fight each other over territory (with lots of wing-slapping) as any other species. I once saw a mourning dove chase a blue jay away from a bird feeder. No wimpy bird gets the best of a blue jay.

Why were these doves white? Because white symbolizes peace, purity, serenity, and other good stuff. But here’s the thing: There are no pure-white doves in the natural world. The ones that were released were the result of hundreds of years of domestication and breeding, creating these freakishly white birds for use as pets, and for release at weddings and other ceremonies.

.

What were the birds that attacked the peace doves? One was a hooded crow, and the other was a yellow-legged gull. Both are very common birds in Europe. The former is related to the American crow, while the latter is related to the herring gull that’s so familiar on seashores and at garbage dumps. The crow and the gull are both omnivorous, which means they eat anything from discarded French fries on a parking lot to nestlings stolen from other birds’ nests and carrion on a roadside. And both are bold birds well adapted to surviving around people—like, say, in Rome.

The Masks   1 comment

~

A goaltender mask, commonly referred to as a goalie mask or a hockey mask, is a mask worn by ice hockey, inline hockey, and field hockey goaltenders to protect the head from injury. Jacques Plante was the first goaltender to create and use a practical mask in 1959. Plante’s mask was a piece of fiberglass that was contoured to his face. This mask later evolved into a helmet/cage combination, and single piece full fiberglass mask. Today, the full fiberglass mask is the more popular option because it is safer.

United States Sixth Generation Fighter Aircraft   Leave a comment

~

Next Generation Air Dominance, previously called F/A-XX, is a development and acquisition program for a future sixth generation air superiority fighter to replace the United States Navy’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet beginning in 2025. A requirement was first identified in June 2008.

 EA-18G Growler

In April 2012, the Navy issued a formal request for information for the F/A-XX. It calls for an air superiority fighter with multi-role capabilities to replace the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft in the 2030s, while complementing the F-35C Lightning II and UCLASS unmanned aircraft, that can operate in anti-access/area denial environments. The aircraft must be capable of operating from Navy Nimitz-class and Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers. Primary missions include air combat, ground attack, surface warfare, and close air support. Other missions can include air-to-air refueling, reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition (RSTA), and electronic attack. There is consideration for manned, unmanned, and optionally manned platforms.

In July 2009, Boeing unveiled a sixth-generation fighter concept the F/A-XX requirement. It was a two-seat, twin-engined tailless jet with a blended wing. Although it has a tandem cockpit, Boeing said it can be manned or unmanned depending on the mission. The fighter concept is in the 40,000 lb (18,000 kg) weight class. The Northrop Grumman X-47B that was chosen for the UCAS-D program has also been proposed for the F/A-XX effort.

In a 31 May 2011 disclosure to Congress, the Department of Defense revealed that they were considering buying more F-35C fighters to replace 556 Super Hornets. 220 Lightning IIs are planned to replace the older F/A-18C/D Hornets. In March 2011, a Navy analysis of alternatives showed that they may buy more F-35C aircraft, develop a new platform, or do both for their NGAD fighter program.

Boeing unveiled an updated F/A-XX sixth-generation fighter concept in April 2013. The concept is a tailless twin-engine stealth fighter available in manned and unmanned configurations. It has canards, which usually compromises the frontal radar cross-section, but the lack of a tail shows an emphasis on all-aspect stealth. It also has diverterless supersonic inlets similar to the F-35. The manned version seems to have restricted rearward visibility without the aid of a sensor.
